11th Annual Great Chef’s Dinner
Every year, top culinary artists come together for the Annual Great Chefs Dinner
, held at the Hayground School in Bridgehampton. First organized in 2003, the event is the major fundraiser for the Hayground School's Jeff's Kitchen
and the Jeff Salaway Scholarship Fund. Jeff’s Kitchen was named after Jeff Salaway, who with his wife Toni Ross
, were the school's co-founders.
This year, at the 11th Annual Great Chef’s Dinner, pioneering Chef Jonathan Waxman
was honored. Among those who came out on a Sunday evening to support Jeff’s Kitchen and the Hayground School were Barry Sonnenfeld, Eric Ripert, Sarrah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Ron Rifkin, Brenda Siemer, and Stuart Match Suna
. The dinner raises money both to support the culinary and garden program as well as to raise money for scholarships. To date almost one million dollars has been raised to support Jeff’s Kitchen’s programs and the Hayground School
Today, in “Jeff’s Kitchen”, the school runs a beautiful culinary arts curriculum. In addition to traditional schoolwork, students plant and tend their own garden, selling the fruits of their labor every Friday at an onsite farmers market.
Hayground School was founded in 1966 as an independent alternative school, committed to a program of innovation in a community of diversity, both economical and cultural. Students range from 3-13 years of age. The mission at Hayground is to provide an open, community school where conventional teaching methods are replaced by new ways of teaching and learning.
There was a special musical performance by Sarah Jessica Parker during the intimate VIP dinner.
